Women Start Half of New Businesses. They Get 1% of the Money. One School Is Changing That.
CINCINNATI, OH, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Mount Notre Dame (MND) announced today plans to develop an entrepreneurship initiative designed to equip MND students with the knowledge, skills and experiences to identify opportunities, develop ideas, and build sustainable ventures. The entrepreneurship initiative is a Board-level early strategic priority
emerging from the start of a new strategic plan. Women control the majority of consumer spending in the United States, yet women remain underrepresented among business founders and leaders. This initiative reflects MND’s commitment to preparing young women not only for the opportunities that exist today, but also to create opportunities that do not yet exist.
“Women are the primary consumers in the marketplace. If we want more women leading companies, we must continue to build those skills where the pipeline starts, in high school,” said Michelle Robinson, President of Mount Notre Dame. “This is about preparing our students to lead, create and build.”
“You fix a problem from the ground up,” said Erin Satzger ’04, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Women already shape what gets bought. Teaching them to build what gets sold is just good business.”
The initiative will build upon MND’s long-standing commitment to empowering young women as confident leaders, creative thinkers and problem solvers while expanding opportunities for students to explore entrepreneurship through real-world experiences.
Additional details regarding the initiative’s timeline, partnerships and student opportunities will be announced as plans develop.
Mount Notre Dame is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for young women founded in 1860 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. MND educates young women from more than 65 zip codes, representing over 100 different grade schools. MND continues to carry on a strong tradition of
educational excellence with an average enrollment of 600 students.
