USAA Appoints Andrew J. Pinkes to Board of Directors

USAA today announced the appointment of Andrew J. Pinkes to its Board of Directors, effective May 29, 2026. Pinkes brings more than three decades of leadership experience across insurance, claims operations, legal, risk management and enterprise transformation.

Throughout his career, Pinkes has held senior executive and board leadership roles across the property and casualty insurance industry, including positions at global insurers and advisory firms. Pinkes served as interim Chief Executive Officer of CLARA Analytics and as acting Head of the Commercial Markets business of The Hartford. He also held Executive Vice President positions at CNA Insurance, XL Group, and The Hartford. He is the former Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the special liability group at Travelers Insurance Company, and the global Chief Executive Officer of Randall & Quilter Legacy Insurance division. Across those roles, Pinkes led transformation initiatives focused on organizational discipline, operational improvement and customer experience within complex insurance environments.

“Andy is a highly experienced leader who understands both USAA’s mission and the members we serve,” said Vice Admiral Jim Zortman, USN (Ret) and Chairman of the USAA Board of Directors. “As a USAA member for more than 30 years, he and his family have experienced firsthand the trust and commitment that defines this organization. He brings sound judgment, humility and a strong operational background to the Board. He has led organizations responsible for supporting people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Those experiences and values will serve USAA well, and we are pleased to welcome him to the Board.”

“It is an honor to join USAA’s Board of Directors,” said Pinkes. “USAA has built a strong legacy of serving military members and their families with consistency and care through every stage of life. I have long admired the organization’s focus on its members and the responsibility that comes with supporting the military community. I look forward to contributing to that mission and helping guide USAA’s continued success in the years ahead.”

Pinkes currently serves on several corporate and advisory boards across the insurance and technology sectors. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College and law degree from Western New England University School of Law.

Today, more than half of USAA’s Board of Directors have honorably served our nation and nearly 25% of the company’s employees are veterans or military spouses. USAA continues to expand military hiring and embed lived military experience across the organization to help ensure its advocacy efforts, products and services deliver meaningful value to the military community. That includes initiatives such as government shutdown relief programs and returning $3.8 billion in financial value to members through distributions, dividends, bank rebates and rewards.
